How To Train Your Muscles For Maximum Recovery

When you hit the gym when you are younger, and most likely more supple you can get away with a lot more. Sloppy form will not kill you, unless you try to deadlift or squat 600 lbs and you only weigh 110! Recovery is also much faster, you can hit the gym 5 days in a row with generally low consequences, except general muscle soreness.

As you age into your thirties and beyond muscle soreness can be the warning signs of injuries and too little recovery between training sessions. If you regularly experience persistent discomfort in the lower back for instance its time to back off. What you need is a new training approach and mindset. You need to open your mind to workout advice that is based on science and appropriate for your age.

No one is asking you to retire from the gym. In fact here is no reason beyond serious injury that you should not be able to work out up until senior age. I for one plan to work out right until the end of my old age, unless life has different plans for me. But the will is still there, if you know what I mean.

So why is everyone intent on pushing it to the bone each time they hit the gym. Half of it is based on ego, and the other half on getting the wrong advices as Arnold would say. Going crazy and attacking the weights or the treadmill each time you hit the gym is a recipe for disaster. Some of the smartest athletes you will find in the gym are competitive powerlifters. Not the guys who take loads of steroids and blow up to 350 lbs and go heavy, heavy, heavy all the time. They only work their max lifts once or twice per year, and rarely work close to their maximum lifts.

No one has a body that can cope with this. Just look at Ronnie Coleman now for instance. When he was 350 lb and looking absolutely massive and squatting 8-900 lb and yelling light weight baby he looked indestructible. Now there is nothing wrong with lifting heavy. Its just that you cant do it all the time. Today Coleman needs multiple hip, and knee replacements, he is also a shell of his former self.

Dorian Yates won the coveted Mr Olympia title 6 times. He trained heavy all the time. Now he does not have any life delimiting injuries like Ronnie Coleman, but he is famed for saying he wished he had of stepped back the heavy weights a touch and cycled the intensity. He means he should have trained heavy for a while then deloaded the weight to say 50% and increase the reps. Then he would build back up and go heavy for a few weeks.

Dorian was famous for being the most intense guy in the gym ever, and it shows in his incredible physique. But he would have liked to have a longer career at the top, and he feels he would have got that if he backed off the extreme training all the time. That would have increased his longevity in the sport. Sound advice.

Tips For Your Skin Care Regimen

A good skin care regimen starts at home. If you have the budget, it is also ideal to have your skin treated regularly at a spa. If a high end spa is not in your budget, you can often get heavily discounted facials at a beauty school or training center if you are lucky enough to have one in your area.

Toner needs to be in your skin care regimen

This is a very common thing that I hear all the time I need Toner in my skin care regimen. Many people dont know that alcohol-based toner removes natural oils. This is not good. Breakouts occur when your skin is in an excess of oil, but natural oils are healthy and ok. If you use an alcohol-free toner you can still get that feeling that many love from alcohol-based toners.

You need to spend a ton on skin care

You can definitely save money in skin care and beauty in general. You can save those more expensive products like retinol for leaving on instead of washing them down the sink. Minimizing your product usage can save you application time and a lot of money.

Clean your hands before your face

A lot of people wash their face with their hands. If you use a washcloth or something like it to clean your face, this tip is useless to you. If you use your hands to clean your face, you need to make sure your hands have been washed and are clean. When your hands arent clean, and you wash your face you rub that bacteria from your hands directly into your skin. This has a completely adverse effect on your skin while cleaning. The bacteria from your hands, when rubbed into your skin, causes breakouts that nobody wants! Take the few extra minutes and wash your hands before cleaning your skin.

Change that old pillowcase

When you sleep your pillowcase collects a lot of the oil, grime, and dirt from your face and hair. While sleeping you toss and turn which causes a lot of grime to fall out of your face and hair which then lands right on your pillow case. Every night you lay your head down on your pillow case and lay in the dirt and grime from the night before. As long as you wash your hair before bed and keep your cleanliness up, changing your pillowcase every week should do the job. When you keep a clean pillow case you avoid the risk of that dirt and grime getting back on your skin thus causing breakouts.

Burning is not a sign of a product working

A lot of times we relate pain with progress, but with skin care this is simply not the case. In things like working out the term No pain no gain is tossed around but this saying does not apply to skin care. When applying a skin care ingredient sometimes a little bit of tingling occurs but burning and pain is not a sign of making progress. If you feel burning you might have an allergy to an ingredient in your product, or you may have sensitive skin. If you have a reaction to a product that feels weird, remove that product. If your reaction does not clear up in a couple minutes you should contact your dermatologist.

All About Cheek Implants

Cheek implants also known as dermal fillers, are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in practice. They can make a drastic difference in the overall appearance of the face.

Cheek implants have been in practice for years, creating a more attractive and symmetrical look for those who feel they need it. Cheeks are one of the most important key features on the face, and cheek implants are intended to better the shape and contour of the face. Candidates for cheek implants may include those who are aging, those losing plumpness and suppleness, and individuals who may have a flat or asymmetrical face.

Why People Opt for Cheek Implants

A cheek lift or implant is a fairly painless procedure and rarely has any major complications associated with it. Dermal fillers in cheeks are very effective as they can dramatically reshape an individual’s face and create a more attractive overall appearance. In addition to providing a more symmetrical look to the face, cheek implants may aid in the reconstruction of a face that has endured physical trauma or damage or drastically improve an orthodontic issue. For those who are uneasy about the appearance of their faces, cheek implants may help those individuals feel significantly better about their outward mien.

While cheek implants usually cannot correct every defect of the face, they can easily balance out many disproportional attributes and improve a person’s look drastically. Candidates who are looking to improve the overall appearance of their faces should consider cheek implants. Those expecting every facial flaw to vanish after cheek implants will be disappointed, as the procedure isn’t intended to do as such.

Side Effects and Risks of Cheek Implants

As with any medical or surgical procedure, there are a few risks and possible side effects involved with undergoing a cheek filler procedure. Individuals who have just received the surgery will not be able to eat solid food for several days after the treatments, and will experience difficulty in chewing. There will also be some swelling and redness in the area for several days following the procedure. Mild to moderate pain may occur as well.

Smokers will likely be asked to stop smoking before the procedure. At times, it is advised that the patient undergoing the procedure not eat or drink immediately before the surgery. All of these requests are to ensure there are no complications during surgery.

Like the majority of surgical treatments, there is the risk of infection. If an infection becomes severe enough, the fillers may have to be removed and put in at a later time. The implant may also shift or become misaligned, and another surgery will be needed to correct it.

Cost of Cheek Implants

While the costs of cheek fillers will vary depending on the area and economic conditions, the average cost of the procedure usually ranges from £1,500 to £2,500. There may be additional charges such as anesthesia, rooms, and other expenses related to the treatment.

Beauty Blunders And Their Quick Fixes

We’ve all done it. Some simple beauty or grooming exercise that has disastrous consequences. Here are seven home remedies to combat a beauty catastrophe.

A couple of days ago I dyed my eyebrows. Thats not really newsworthy, but I forgot to put some Vaseline or petroleum jelly on the skin around the actual brows meaning that when I removed the dye it looked as though two black furry caterpillars were stuck to my face. Not attractive. Whilst frantically searching the Internet for the cure I realised just how many beauty blunders I have made over the past 15 years. Self-tanning disasters, pimple popping scabs, hair removal cream nightmares. I have done them all and I have compiled all of the home remedies and quick fixes right here for you.

Eyebrow/Eyelash Tint

Basically what you need is a light abrasive scrub to remove the dye from your skin. Mix two tablespoons of dishwashing liquid with two tablespoons of baking soda. Blend them together into a paste and apply a small amount with a washcloth gently rubbing the affected skin. Re-do as many times as necessary, rinse completely and then apply some moisturizer to the skin as dishwashing liquid causes skin to become incredibly dry. I can testify to this actually working; it removes all traces of eyebrow dye from the skin without stripping the eyebrows themselves.

If you cannot fix this yourself, you will need the help of a professional. I recommend Janette’s eyelash salon – she has saved my bacon on more than one occasion after I botched my lashes and brows.

Splotchy Self-Tanning Lotion

Whether its patchy in places such as knees, elbows and ankles or you didnt get to your palms in time and theyre now a brilliant orange color, this recipe will remove the self-tanner a layer at a time until you get to a color that you like or give you a blank canvas to re-do the whole thing.

According to Elaine Sauer from Elizabeth Arden Salons, run baby oil into your skin, let it soak in for five to ten minutes, then use an exfoliator to remove the tan.

Tanning Advice recommends using plain old soap and a pumice stone. Lather up the affected areas with loads of soap, then gently, I repeat gently, exfoliate with the pumice stone in small circles. Continue until you reach the color that you want and wash off.

Lemon and salt are also an old favourite. Tanning Advice suggests cutting a lemon in half, dipping it in salt and gently scrubbing away your self tanning lotion with that. The abrasive salt mixed with the citric acid peels the orange away.

Inflamed Pimple Squeezing

According to Sensible Acne Advice 90% of people get pimples. One of the worst things that you can do to yourself and something that most people are guilty of is picking and popping pimples. Obviously, you should refrain from this practice, however, if you find yourself with the problem of inflamed and swollen skin from pimples use this simple method. Wrap an ice cube in a cloth and press it on to the swollen pimple. This will immediately reduce swelling and redness

Hair Removal Cream Burns and Irritations

What you should do depends on the area treated and the actual severity of the problem. If you find yourself with an irritated chin, or lipline from removing upper lip hair, grab an ice cube, wrap it in a tissue and use it as a cold compress against the area. The cold reduces redness and swelling. The use of a hydrocortisone cream which is available over-the-counter is also effective.

If you have suffered a burn or irritation to an area such as the bikini line, LiveStrong advises that you run it under cold water at a medium water pressure for 20 minutes. It may be tempting to put a cream of some kind on it but with burns any ointments or creams can in fact worsen the condition. Wrap a clean gauze or bandage around the area. Wear loose clothing so as not to put pressure on the area, and if severe, contact your doctor for treatment.

Bikini Wax Bleeding

Again, this depends on the severity of the problem. If it is just a small amount of bleeding, Sophie from Sophies Soaps says to use a cotton ball soaked in hydrogen peroxide to stop the bleeding and to avoid infection. If you are bleeding quite a lot, please see you doctor immediately.

Ingrown Hair Plucking

You remove an ingrown hair and now it is infected? Did you sterilise your tweezers and have a shower before you tried to remove the ingrown? Very simple to avoid, yet if you have an infection from plucking out an ingrown hair wipe it with a cotton ball soaked in hydrogen peroxide and cover with a plaster. Apply the hydrogen peroxide twice daily until the ingrown infection disappears.

If you try to remove an ingrown hair always sterilize your equipment and skin beforehand and after use an antiseptic wipe.

Nail Discoloration

If you have removed your nail polish to find that your nails have turned a bright yellow its simple to fix. Mix some lemon juice with peroxide, soak a cotton ball with the mixture and wipe the discoloration off. Always use a clear base coat before painting nails or the pigment can stain them.

The above treatments are quick fixes that actually work for all those little beauty blunders that you make. Try these home remedies and fix those little problems immediately and cost-effectively. If in doubt about the severity of your problem, please see your doctor for treatment advice.

Weight loss Surgery

It is said that if you want to lose weight then you need to eat healthy and workout. But there are those who have tried it all and the only option remaining is weight loss surgery. There are several ways to do this.

When you get weight loss surgery, your surgeon makes changes to your stomach or small intestine, or both. Here are the four methods surgeons typically use:

Gastric Bypass: Your doctor may call this “Roux-en-Y” gastric bypass, or RYGB. The surgeon leaves only a very small part of the stomach (called the pouch). That pouch can’t hold a lot of food, so you eat less. The food you eat bypasses the rest of the stomach, going straight from the pouch to your small intestine. This surgery can often be done through several small incisions using a camera to see inside (laparoscope). Doctors can also perform a mini-gastric bypass, which is a similar procedure also done through a laparoscope.

Adjustable Gastric Band: The surgeon puts a small band around the top of your stomach. The band has a small balloon inside it that controls how tight or loose the band is. The band limits how much food can go into your stomach. This surgery is done using a laparoscope.

Gastric Sleeve: This surgery removes most of the stomach and leaves only a narrow section of the upper part of the stomach, called a gastric sleeve. The surgery may also curb the hunger hormone ghrelin, so you eat less.

Most people who want weight loss surgery don’t have the entire information. First and foremost, if you have a sweet tooth then you will end up having bad days. Your new digestive system process the sugar so fast and what results is diarrhea if not sweating. You will then also have to convince your insurance company that the surgery is a must.

The Surgery Results in Uncontrollable Shitting

Here’s what you need to know right away: if you’ve had surgery for weight loss, you’re vulnerable to “dumping syndrome,” which is exactly what it sounds like. It happens when foods that are high in sugar or simple carbohydrates, aka everything that tastes good, get processed too quickly by your newly-neutered digestive system, resulting in sweating, shaking, intense cramps, vomiting, and of course, uncontrollable diarrhea.

Just Convincing Them You Need the Surgery Is Hard as Hell

The cost of bariatric surgery is usually covered by insurance, though not out of the charitable altruism these companies are known for. Successful patients will almost certainly experience fewer health problems down the line, so paying five figures now means not paying six figures later. Before they’ll pay up, however, they require pages and pages of proof that you’re not faking the whole thing (presumably with a fat suit like Martin Lawrence in Big Momma’s House).

So who exactly qualifies for weight loss surgery? Someone who’s BMI is above 40 and they also battle health conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure.

Research supports the benefits of weight loss surgery for those with a BMI between 35 and 39.9 with obesity related health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis and other obesity related conditions. You could be a candidate for surgical weight loss if you meet any of the following criteria:

You are more than 100 lbs. over your ideal body weight.

You have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of over 40.

You have a BMI of over 35 and are experiencing severe negative health effects, such as high blood pressure or diabetes, related to being severely overweight.

You are unable to achieve a healthy body weight for a sustained period of time, even through medically-supervised dieting.
